Graphic T-Shirt Design

What was your job for this project?
My job for this project was to create a unique, original and creative graphic T-shirt based on the theme/ topic given. I was assigned the store Ma’s Antique Shop. I used ideas and objects associated with the theme antique to formulate a design that matches the store’s identity.
What was the design process you took to complete the project? Please list your steps below.
The design process I took was first researching common antiques found in antique stores. Once I found objects that I liked, I used them as inspiration to create my sketches. After creating multiple sketches, I chose my favorite and moved on to the digital design process. I used the pen tool to create the outlines for design and then the live paint bucket tool to mark the pieces that would be removed and which would remain when the graphic is printed. Following the printing, I peeled the pieces representing negative space off. Finally, my shirt was pressed.
What did you find most challenging about your design?
I found the online design process most challenging because I had created my entire design only to realize that something had been messed up. I then had to retrace out my entire design until it was ready for printing; however, the retracing process did not take too long.
If you can change one thing about your design what would you change?
If I could change one thing about my project, I would change the font used for Ma’s in the horn of the antique music player. I feel that I could have chosen a better, clearer font. I do still like the font I chose, but I could have made a better choice.
What do you think makes a good graphic t-shirt design?
I think a good graphic t-shirt incorporates many aspects of design, including symmetry and font pairing. In addition, I believe that the color of the graphic must match the shirt and correlate well with theme of the shirt. I also believe that a good graphic tee must have a clear and neat-looking graphic.
