Font Pairing

What does it mean to create a font pairing?

To create a font pairing is to find two or more compatible fonts that work well together and fit the theme of the work.

What are the four assignments you chose to do? Write the name of the assignment and describe your design for each.

I chose to do “Hello from the other side”. For this assignment, I chose a thicker font with a slanted thinner font that worked well with an outer space background.

I chose to do “These are the good ol’ days”. For this assignment, I chose to do a mix of wide and narrow with bold and regular fonts. In addition, I used a neutral color scheme to add to the vintage theme.

I chose to do ‘Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”. For this assignment, I used a cursive font with a bold font to emphasize the bee and the butterfly and a thin font in between. In addition, I used a few graphics to add to the fonts.

I chose to do “Schwangau, Germany”. For this assignment, I chose a bold narrow font with a thin narrow cursive font with a picture of a German castle.

Which assignment would you say is your BEST font pairing and why?

I believe my best font pairing is “Hello from the other side”. Although this piece was difficult and required many trials, I eventually created a unique and out-of-the-box font pairing, including a background that complemented the fonts nicely.

Which assignment would you say is your Least Successful font pairing and why?

I believe my least successful font pairing is “These are the good ol’ days”. I believe that more work could have been done to arrange the words differently and switch the fonts around. In addition, I could have taken more time to select a proper color scheme that would make certain fonts stand out more than others.

How would you describe the font pairing process? What makes a font pairing so difficult?

I would describe the font pairing process as tedious, but fun. It is difficult to find fonts that work well together and mesh well with a certain theme, however; selecting and arranging various fonts is a way to show creativity.
